Lobelia cardinalis 'Fried Green
Tomatoes' PPAF
Cardinal Flower Zone: 3-8
"Selected
by a local Pennsylvania nursery from a batch of seed grown Lobelia
cardinalis, the vigor of 'Fried Green Tomatoes' is sure to amaze growers
and gardeners alike. Quick to establish, dozens of brilliant red
blooming stems appear in late June attracting wildlife to the garden. As
days turn warmer, upper foliage transitions to a deep olive tone
while foliage underside remains maroon. Extremely winter hardy, Lobelia
cardinalis 'Friend Green Tomatoes' prefers full sun and performs quite
well in average to wet soil moisture." North Creek New plants will
have as many as 25-30 blooming stems! Others, especially red
leaved forms take much longer to establish and aren't nearly as
vigorous. Foliage color is similar to Penstemon digitalis ‘Husker
Red’, with ts new growth of maroon and deep olive green )the color of
fried green tomatoes!)

Lobelia chinensis
(L. radicans) Groundcover Chinese Lobelia

Zone: 6-9
While most Lobelias are Native to the US, the little cutie is a
groundcover Lobelia from China! It has miniature leaves topped ALL
SUMMER with equally miniature pink blooms. Would be expected to
spread 36" in a year so it's a good spreader but so tiny, it won't hurt
anything!

What you're saying about us...
|
Absolutely amazing is my
best description of my first order receipt ever from you. I got home
least night, and found the USPS man had delivered a box of live plants
that actually had prearranged "holes" in the box. You're the
first one I've ever seen do it. Then, I opened the box, and the plants
looked fresh enough to make a salad. They looked like I had purchased
them at a local nursery and simply driven them home from across town.
My compliments, too, on the reminder instructions, and in particular
"unless you're particularly adept at watering qt. pots."
...I am 110% satisfied.

More Compliment Lobelias
We've
always tried to have the latest, greatest Lobelias in the trade. All the while we're watching
the sort of old standby 'Compliment' Lobelias. And they're always
just dependable, not fussy, good foliage, great blooms and, well, just
dependable! We had the opportunity to hand pick colors from a grower
who'd grown a seed mix in 2007 and we picked 6 outstanding colors, clean healthy
foliage and gave them a name that (as closely as possible) describes their
colors and then produced those from cuttings. We love all the hot new
Lobelias but honestly the 'Compliments' are hard to beat and bound to
bring "Compliments"! Not reliably hardy north of Zone 7.

What you're saying about us...
|
I
recently received my order, and was delighted at the quality/health of the
plants and the manner in which they were packed. This was the first time
that I have ordered from Lazy S’S, and would not hesitate to do it
again, and would certainly recommend you to others. I hesitate at doing
mail order with live plants, but I was unable to find the Lespedeza
‘Yakashima’ variety around here. The ‘Postman Alert’ was very
helpful and worked well for me.

Spider Lily,
Surprise Lily, Hurricane Lily, Resurrection Lily, Magic Lily, Naked
Ladies by whatever name you know Lycoris, they're still a delight in
the Fall Garden. For best growth -- well-drained soil, 3/4 day
sun, they appreciate bulb food and especially potash. Do not cut
foliage back as it's feeding the bulb. Cutting the flowers stems
if fine. By in large from Asia, they are summer dormant,
fall bloomers, grow foliage in late winter/early spring or rarely Fall.
Atypical Roots
since, of course, they're bulbs. NEED MULCH in
the colder zones. Note, you
will find potted plants more expensive from us (and others) than if
purchased in bulk from bulb suppliers during their brief dormant period.
But potted plants can be shipped all season which is not true for
dormant bulbs which generally have a 2 month shipping window. It's
more expensive for the grower to keep plants in pots year round.
The now informed consumer can compare "apples and oranges" (so to speak)
and make an informed decision.
