Lobelia
cardinalis 'Golden Torch' PPAF Gold
Leaf Cardinal Flower Zone: 4-9

Nothing
is more dramatic than a group of Cardinal Flowers UNLESS it's a patch of
this -- golden foliage Cardinal Flowers. The contrast is dramatic!
An Intrinsic Perennial Garden introduction with an incredible
combination of gold foliage and brilliant red flowers. Early in
the season, the gold foliage alone holds it's own and then from July to
September, the bright red torches as the finishing touch. Hubba!
Hubba! as my Daddy would have said!

Lobelia chinensis
(L. radicans) Groundcover Chinese Lobelia

Zone: 6-9
While most Lobelias are Native to the US, the little cutie is a
groundcover Lobelia from China! It has miniature leaves topped ALL
SUMMER with equally miniature pink blooms. Would be expected to
spread 36" in a year so it's a good spreader but so tiny, it won't hurt
anything!

Lobelia
fulgens 'Elm Fire' ('Elmfeuer') Elm Fire Cardinal
Flower Z: 5-9 ( moist)
A
new hybrid/cultivar of Mexican Cardinal flower, with the same easy care disposition. HUMMINGBIRDS love its bright, rich scarlet flowers. Will only take sun if soil is very moist or wet in summer (but well-drained or dry in winter). Average moisture in shade. Vigorous grower. Ours live in pots outside in winter.
Elm Fire has huge red flowers and deep beet red foliage. Purported
as an improved 'Queen Victoria' -- and we absolutely agree. This has
performed wonderfully for us!

Lobelia, Arizona Shrub
Zone: 7-10

Arizona Native. Emerges in late spring. Parades its
penstemon-like scarlet flowers w/ yellow throats until the fall. Attractive narrow linear foliage on a low herbaceous shrub. Lobelia
'Grape Knee High' PPAF
Crown Royal Cardinal Flower
Zone: 6-9

"Our
first Lobelia introduction! One of the problems with Lobelias is the fact
that they can “fall apart” in a wind if they are too lush and tall.
Terra Nova to the rescue! By backcrossing to an extremely dwarf form of
the very hardy Lobelia siphilitica, we’ve come up with a true dwarf
cardinal flower with deep purple flowers! Not only is this plant dwarf,
it’s also sterile! This prolongs the bloom time. Another first."

What you're saying about us...
|
Absolutely amazing is my
best description of my first order receipt ever from you. I got home
least night, and found the USPS man had delivered a box of live plants
that actually had prearranged "holes" in the box. You're the
first one I've ever seen do it. Then, I opened the box, and the plants
looked fresh enough to make a salad. They looked like I had purchased
them at a local nursery and simply driven them home from across town.
My compliments, too, on the reminder instructions, and in particular
"unless you're particularly adept at watering qt. pots."
...I am 110% satisfied.

Lobelia x speciosa 'Compliment Scarlet'
Compliment Scarlet Cardinal Flower Zone: 7-9

We find this to be one of the most dependable Lobelias. Vigorous and showy whose parent is the wetland species, so it loves moisture. Very long blooming if spent flowers are cut off. Needs part shade, unless planted in a wet spot then it can take sun. Ours are grown in full sun but we give them lots of water.

More Compliment Lobelias
We've
always tried to have the latest, greatest Lobelias in the trade. All the while we're watching
the sort of old standby 'Compliment' Lobelias. And they're always
just dependable, not fussy, good foliage, great blooms and, well, just
dependable! We had the opportunity to hand pick colors from a grower
who'd grown a seed mix in 2007 and we picked 6 outstanding colors, clean healthy
foliage and gave them a name that (as closely as possible) describes their
colors and then produced those from cuttings. We love all the hot new
Lobelias but honestly the 'Compliments' are hard to beat and bound to
bring "Compliments"! Not reliably hardy north of Zone 7.

Flower Zone: 3-9

A
T.V. Star! Featured on The Victory Garden, this ruby-garnet beauty glows
in its velvety jewel-tones. Longer blooming season than most Lobelias. Stunning
velvety ruby red blooms spew forth from tall, sturdy spikes that are
backed by purplish foliage from mid-summer through Fall. This
very cold hardy cultivar is a favorite of hummingbirds. Makes
an excellent cut flower. A hybrid of L. cardinalis x L.
siphilitica (both Northeast Natives) introduced the name in
Lobelias, Thurman Maness and considers it his finest.

What you're saying about us...
|
I
recently received my order, and was delighted at the quality/health of the
plants and the manner in which they were packed. This was the first time
that I have ordered from Lazy S’S, and would not hesitate to do it
again, and would certainly recommend you to others. I hesitate at doing
mail order with live plants, but I was unable to find the Lespedeza
‘Yakashima’ variety around here. The ‘Postman Alert’ was very
helpful and worked well for me.

We
purchased this plant originally as Lychnis miqueliana. But, clearly the bloom

red flowers from July - October. (The species
has apricot flowers and totally different petals.) Not sure what our

Lychnis viscaria 'Zulu'
German Catchfly Zone: 3-8

This catchfly sports deep
pink blooms on maroon stems. Prefers sun and well-drained soil. Long blooming. Do not
over water -- now there's a refreshing change! Very drought tolerant once established. German catchfly produces basal rosettes of 5-inch, slender leaves. In late spring clusters of magenta 1-inch flowers.
(A new employee misunderstood my pronunciation of this plant and thought
I said Lychnis 'The Scariest Zulu', so that's what we
all call it here now! But it's not a bit scary! On the
contrary, it's charming. Soil: Well-drained

Rich green foliage is set off by the 8" arching white flower spikes along 2-3 foot stems. Put this where it has room to spread by underground runners or in a large sunken container. It's
extraordinarily beautiful but it does spread, particularly if the soil is moist. BUT

choice Perennial from Spain makes and unusual cut flower. Despite
its 'grayness', it wants MOIST but well-drained soil and is aggravated if

Lysimachia japonica 'Minutissima' Dwarf Creeping

The tiniest creeping Lysimachia you can imagine. Perfect weaving it's way around stepping stones or other plants in part shade -- it almost looks like a creeping thyme but has that beat in the shade where Thyme won't grow and it will and ditto in moist places -- great for this plant but not for thyme. Lysionotus
sangzhiensis Chinese Gesneriad
Z: 7B-9

A
rare Gesneriad with fleshy rhizomes which creep just beneath the soil from
limestone mountains in Thailand and China where they're often found in
moss pockets. Long, thick-textured eliptical leaves on flexible
branches which bear showy 2" long tubular flowers, white with purple
throats. A gorgeous container plant for most parts of the country.
Best in part shade. Most
require cool temperatures (this one seems indifferent, blooming on July
1st in 90+ degree temperature) to bloom and do well in moss-lined baskets which
allow the rhizomes to emerge. Grow in sphagnum, orchid bark or very well
drained mix. This plant should probably be hardy anywhere in zone 7
in the ground in well-drained soil -- it just hasn't been tested.
