1998) "Destined to be one of the truly great Hostas". Leaves have dark
green centers w/ light golden margins & are somewhat twisted & widen w/
age. This will become a BIG Hosta! Takes lots of sun. The clump emerges
green then the edges appear. 30" Scapes. Rhizomatous; moderate to fast
growth rate. 
The
BEST of the August Moon mutations from Walden-West '87. With
heart-shaped leaves, 7" long x 6" wide, it has 1" irregular margins of
greenish gold and deep blue-green centers. Bell shaped light lavender
(almost white) flowers early summer. AKA Mayan Moon but, technically, an
incorrect name that was never registered. 1/2 sun to shade. 
Superb
small Hosta w/ small green leaves (2" wide) w/ a narrow white margin. 8"
purple Scapes w/ bell-shaped lavender flowers in midsummer. Forms a
QUICK, neat clump. Useful for edging or in a shady rock garden. Good for
massing. 
A
tetraploid mutation of Hosta 'Abba Dabba Do', this supper new Hosta
makes a HUGE 60" wide clump of foliage with pointed, slightly wavy, waxy
green leaves, 13" long x 8" wide bordered with a wide light yellow
margin. 30" tall spikes of light lavender flowers in June.
Robust,
medium to large cascading mound of mottled 2 color green, heart-shaped
leaves w/ wide edges of gray-green to creamy white. Holds color well in
sun. AHS multiple award winner. ONE OF THE BEST WHITE MARGINED HOSTAS.
Each leaf is a bit different. "A well grown clump of this giant defies
description", T. Avent. 26" Scape. 
Large
heavily textured corrugated blue leaves when mature. Near white
blooms on tall Scapes on this sport of Hosta robusta. One of the
best big blues with huge 15" chalky-blue leaves that are rounded, cupped
and puckered at maturity. Compact growing habit. Best Blue Leaf
Award at the AHS Convention in 1989 Hybridizer: Aden 1978
Medium
green leaves, 16"x11". A 48" Scape, bare and straight displays fertile,
white, funnel-shaped flowers. Superb Hosta. This is (eventually) a very
big plant with a graceful drooping habit which does indeed give it
elegance. The leaves are heavily textured and cordate. A great
background specimen for variegated Hostas. (Shaw, '86) 
Glossy,
golden chartreuse, heart-shaped leaf. 38" Scape w/ attractive flower
trusses of bell-shaped flowers. VIGOROUS, prolific grower. Compact mound
of ruffled foliage that holds its color all season. Tolerates almost
full sun; in fact, needs it to color. The most popular of the
sieboldiana hybrid from Shaw's Birchwood series. 
From
the tardiana group., this features a mound of flat, heart-shaped,
blue-green leaves of thick substance making it less susceptible to slug
damage and bell-shaped lavender blooms on 26" scales. One of the
bluest of the Hostas. 
A
1986 Aden introductions with huge mounds of umbrella-like leaves that
are thick and very slug resistant and have a somewhat cupping
appearance. Great texture. Great background Hosta for
chartreuse Hostas. Reasonably fast growing. Blue green early
in the season, becoming more green with the heat of summer. Best
Blue Leaf Award, '87 and '98
Exceptionally
large, cupped, puckered, heart-shaped blue-green leaves. Superb glaucous
blue! Scape 28", Flower medium, bell-shaped, large, white fertile
flowers. An ALAN BLOOM introduction! The leaf is wavy/contorted. It has
a unique shape amongst Hostas. The plant originated in 1990 in England. 
A
Frances Williams cross. Large, heavily corrugated green leaves w/ a
creamy white edge. Very leafy 32" Scapes look like a Christmas tree.
Looks super all season & the black seed pods look good in flower
arrangements. Pale, lavender white blooms. One of the best cream edge H.
sieboldianas. Not for containers. Prefers 1/3 to full shade. 
Less
known than the standard hybrids, but no less wonderful, this species
spreads by stolons & makes an unusual groundcover of very dark green
lance-shaped leaves. The flower stalks reach 22" tall, with flower buds
that never open (clausa = closed). The buds are DEEP LAVENDER w/ a HOT
PINK ring around the base... very striking! 
Medium-sized
broadly oval green leaf w/ a white margin. The blunt rounded end
distinguishes this from 'H. undulata Albo-marginata with which it is
confused. 24" tall Scapes of dark violet bell shaped flowers. Mildly
stoloniferous; makes wide spreading mats in cool woodland/peaty soil.
Probably the first Hosta in the U.S. -- around 1900. 
A
sport of and similar to H. Golden Tiara except the wavy leaf margin is
creamy white, providing excellent contrast to the green centered
foliage. Considered by many to be the BEST of the Tiara series. VIGOROUS
& quick multiplying. 28" bare Scapes carry sterile purple, bell-shaped
flowers. Great if you don't want seedlings. 
A
small sized Hosta with very narrow RUFFLED YELLOW LEAVES. The unique
leaves 4" x 3/4" are yellow and wavy. It has purple striped flowers. One
of the better edger Hostas. Best in rather dense shade which is an
exception for gold Hostas, which usually want more sun. 14" Scape w/
fertile flowers. This is a great little Hosta. 
This
2003 Machen introduction is a tetraploid that's an improved selection of
'Kabitan' featuring long wavy leaves and improved vigor due to the wider
green margin than 'Kabitan' (the green part of the leaf is what makes
food for the plant!). Dark lavender blooms open in midsummer.
Leaves are dense and heavily rippled when mature. Golden middle my
turn near white in full sun, probably not the best look, but it does
tolerate the sun.
Early,
the oval/heart shaped leaves are creamy yellow w/ a crisp, green margin.
There may be green streaks into the yellow center. By June, the leaves
have turned green. Fairly large, dome-shaped plant. Floliferous 38"
Scapes. SUPERB! Takes up to 3/4 sun. 
Slightly
rugose gray-green leaves w/ a VERY fine white line on the edge - not
variegated, just a white edge creeping up from leaves that are whitish
gray below. Good funnel-shaped violet flowers well above the foliage.
Good container plant. Mostly infertile. The BEST flowering form of the 'fortunei'
Hostas. Has a violet cast to the leaves & Scape from it's probably H.
nigrescens parentage. Superb, superb Hosta! 
Newer
is always better! An award winning classic that remains popular.
Recognizable by it distinct, fine white margin on large green leaves.
Extremely tidy and more formal looking than many white edged Hostas.
AHS Eunice Fisher Awared 1976. Klopping 1986 A vigorous 'fortunei'
cultivar.
Good,
textured heart-shaped 9" x 7"bluish green leaves, medium to large w/ a
wide creamy yellow edge. A good increaser that appears more resistant to
SLUGS than some. Useful for large areas. RAPID grower! 42" tall Scape.
Takes 3/4 sun. Fertile flowers early in the season. Gorgeous with Arum
italicum 'Pictum' or Solomon's Seal. 
Hybridized
by Aden in 1978 featuring a mound of flat, heart-shaped, chartreuse
golden leaves and pale lavender bell-shaped flowers on 14" Scapes.
Rapid grower.
The
all-gold mutation of H. Golden Tiara. It is very bright early in the
season but has a rather thin leaf, so it can't take sun in midsummer
like many gold Hostas. Stunning in dappled shade. Has the same excellent
growth & flowering characteristics as do all the "Tiaras". Multiplies
like a rabbit! 24" Scape. 
The
heart-shaped leaves emerge green but gradually change to gold with green
edge. If well grown & sited this is ONE OF THE BEST HOSTAS EVER
INTRODUCED! It needs dappled light -- too much sun makes it whiten; in
full shade, the gold does not develop. Always near the top of the
popularity poll. Vigorous. 42" Scapes. 
A
band of gold wraps the edge of each heart shaped, 4" x 2.5" green leaf
on this small Hosta. A rapid grower, it soon reaches maturity. Great
along the edge of a garden. 32" bare Scapes. AHS Award Winner & Top 10
Poll. This outstanding Hosta hybrid was responsible for revolutionizing
the small/medium Hosta world. 
if moist
12"
x 9" blue-green leaf with white margins, heavily textured. 26" Scape
with leaves produces fertile, lavender, funnel-shaped flowers. Takes a
lot of sun. The heart-shaped leaves have a textured surface. Introduced
by Paul Aden in 1986. Fairly new & quite eye-catching. Will take a great
deal of sun with lots of watering. 
Solberg
1994. Possibly the most exciting Hosta to hit the trade in years.
A reverse variegated sport of Hosta 'Fragrant Bouquet' with the same
near-white fragrant blooms that are huge. Grows vigorously to 48"
wide. Leaves are greenish-gold with a wide green edge and it a
show stopper!
Deep
powder blue foliage forms a dense, medium size mound. Leaves are heart
shaped, w/ distinct veins & wavy margins & rise up & out like a fountain
of gray & blue. Takes time to reach mature shape. Holds color in up to
3/4 sun. Will grow in container. AHS Award winner. One of, if not the
best blue Hosta. Young leaves are not as blue as mature leaves and a bit
more pointed. We tried various 'new blues' and returned to this in
the Fall of 2007 because newer just wasn't better!
Medium
green foliage, with a size and shape similar to Hosta lancifolia, with a
pure white margin. 5" x 3" leaf. Deeply veined. 20" Scape, bare,
straight. Flower medium, funnel-shaped. Mature leaf significantly
different, and better, than immature. An Alan J. Summer introduction. 
Pebbly,
bright gold foliage w/ crisp, marrow borders of dark green on 9" long x
6" leaves. This Hosta has excellent contrast between the gold & green
colors. Intensely puckered leaves bordered w/ a side, deep green margin.
Good sun tolerance. Fast growing. 30" tall Scapes. "One of the best
Hostas ever introduced," T. Avent. 
Unusually
shiny, pest-resistant green leaves. Tolerates almost full sun. Excellent
ground cover. Fragrant, long, almost white blooms in midsummer. Tightly
massed leaves. Rapid grower. 
The
all green cousin of the Tiara series, Golden Tiara, Golden Scepter,
Diamond Tiara. The all green Hostas are what makes the variegated
ones pop out in the Landscape. 
Neo
Plants 1991. Former 'Hosta of the Year' from the Hosta
Association. Holds up better than most through the first frosts.
A variegated form of our personal favorite blue, H. Halcyon.
Leaves start out blue with a wide creamy center which gradually changes
to chartreuse. Best color with some direct morning sun.
A
variable species from Japan. Narrow, arching green leaves with very
DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT WHITE FLOWERS (occasionally lightly suffused with
purple in the middle of the lobe), equally distinct flower buds. This
species is seldom available to the public. Takes a great deal of sun. 
Lustrous
cascading green mound with leaning Scapes of pale lilac flowers from
midsummer through to autumn. A very distinctive, excellent green Hosta
that grows vigorously. Red tinged petioles. Takes a lot of sun. Blooms
FOREVER! Beautiful, distinctive leaf. Takes a great deal of sun with
adequate water. 
Recently
discovered in Korea, this species was selling for $200.00 in 1996!
Our clone was selected by Hosta expert George Schmid. The undulation on
its long strapping, glossy leaves alone make this species very
desirable. It forms a large display very quickly & produces many stems
of spider-like, violet flowers on 36" Scapes. This is an extraordinary
Hosta.
Narrow,
lanceolate, shiny green leaves form a dense, vase-shaped mound. Many
spikes of trumpet-shaped deep violet flowers lilac-blue anthers from
LATE SUMMER-AUTUMN. Excellent for ground cover/edging. Sterile. Scape
has purple-red dots on the lower 1/3. Sun tolerant. 
3"
x 1" chartreuse veined leaf. 18" bare Scape. A mature plant forms a
round ball w/ leaves packed so tightly it resembles a big, yellow
cheerleader's Pom-Pom. Very unusual, eye-catching Hosta. Small but
vigorous & it blooms a really long time! A H. venusta hybrid. 15" tall
flowers Scapes. Old leaves fade from green (lime) to gold (lemon). 
Introduced
at the 1994 Midwest Regional Hosta Society & now, finally making it's
way into the market from the collector's. Med. growth rate, very pale
lavender flowers in early July on Scapes topping two feet over 8"x 6"
leaves w/ gold center, green edges & good substance. 
Can
there be a better Hosta than Patriot? Yup, it's offspring, Minuteman!
This stunning 1994 introduction from Virginia's Mobjack Nursery has a
much darker green center than H. 'Patriot', but is surrounded by the
same sharply contrasting wide, pure white border. Heavy substanced
leaves have a much wider white border than Patriot. 
Yellow
margined w/ more undulation to the leaf than the species. Ribbed w/
deeply sunken veins. AHS Award Winner. Broad, irregular golden yellow
margins w/ streaks running to the leaf midrib. So STRIKING, you must
choose its neighbors carefully. (Watch for late frosts!) 
7"
x 5", veined, viridescent yellow (yellow turning to green) leaves with a
white margin. Scape is 28" and foliated. A mutation from H. 'Gold
Standard'. Time the color of flowers blooming near it to coordinate with
the period when the leaf is yellow & when it is green. 
Velvety
leaves with bold green margins around bright white centers on large,
wavy leaves . Holds variegation well. Larger & even more vigorous than
the parent White Christmas & less susceptible to sun scorch. This one
will stop you in your tracks! This stunningly beautiful Hosta was in
200! 30" tall Scapes. 
7"
x 5" chartreuse gold leaves of UPRIGHT habit. Tall, 42" Scape. When
young a rather ungainly plant but makes a good garden plant with leaves
that are thick enough that they are not often damaged. Will not get gold
color in full shade. Needs to be under planted. An Aden introduction.
Beautiful flowers. 
A
form of H. 'Krossa Regal' with a whitish to yellowish, variable width
margin which is wavy-undulate. 44" flower Scape. Slow in the early years
but eventually an excellent large, vase-shaped specimen w/ grayish blue
leaves & creamy margins. A very distinctive Hosta, destined to become a
classic.. Was $24.99 Qt. last year! 
Extremely
wide, irregular, pure white borders. Deep hunter green center provides a
sharp contrast. Best in morning sun but okay in shade. Still one of the
very best Hostas. A tetraploid sport of 'Francee'. 36" Scape. The first
plant released sold for $875 at the 1992 American Hosta Society
Convention! 1997 Hosta OF THE YEAR. 
Bright
yellow leaf centers mature to parchment white that does not melt out in
the summer heat. Irregular, narrow, deep blue-green margins provide a
striking contrast. Absolutely spectacular Hosta. Leaf 6" long x 4" wide
at maturity. Considered one of the best new Hostas in years. 1999 Hosta
OF THE YEAR. Does well in shade. 
The
first Hosta to receive the Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Hosta
Award. Small, veined, blue-green leaf. A PROFUSION of pale, lavender
flowers on 36" Scapes that just keep coming over a dense mound of
foliage. Another oldie-but-goodie... one of the best all-purpose Hostas,
especially for edging. 
Hear-shaped
light gray-green leaves that are edged in a wide border in spring that
starts out creamy yellow with gray-green streaks and become almost
iridescent, creamy-white by summer. This strong grower is topped
with 20" tall scapes of light lavender flowers in midsummer. A
'Flamboyant' hybrid.
A
fabulous new double form of the classic FRAGRANT August Lily with blooms
twice as large as any other species. Need a fair amount of sun to
loom like all in the species and soil with consistent moisture. Up
early in the spring, so protect from frost.
Narrow, long, arching green foliage. Unique BRIGHT PURPLE flowers stand out even at a distance. Dark flowers remain COMPLETELY CLOSED, resembling lady finger firecrackers in size and shape. 
This Mark Zilis hybrid of H. rupifraga x H. 'Shining Tot' is one of the most unique and possibly best green
Hostas to hit the market in years. The incredibly thick, ruffled, and glossy, green leaves form an attention getting 28" wide clump. The showy,
bright RED flower Scapes are topped in late summer with bluish purple flowers. 
A
venusta-like selection originally grown from seed by Arrowhead Alpines
with green, heart-shaped leaves and Purple flowers. Just the thing
to tuck in tiny places. Wonderful in a rock garden or trough.
Will spread to great widths, even 30".
For a good fragrant
Hosta, the cost conscious classic is hard to beat. Excellent glossy, dark green foliage. Not as pretty a flower as H.
plantaginea, but still fabulous and it doesn't come up as early (& get frost damage) nor does it need as much careful sun to flower. Tons & tons of flowers on 36"
Scapes. The first ever patented Hosta. 
Watanabe
1996. A extremely wide Hosta when mature that's upright and
vase-shaped and has satiny blue-gray leaves with a wide creamy margin.
It's been around awhile but remains quite possibly the finest variegated
Hosta ever introduced according to Hosta guru Tony Avent. Topped in
summer with pale lavender blooms on very tall 54" Scapes.
This
Natalie Suggs introduction makes a giant vigorous growing showpiece for the woodland garden. The long medium green leaves are surrounded by a wide white border. In late August, it's topped w/ large very fragrant purple flowers on 3'
Scapes. 
A small to medium
Hosta is up early in
spring, 12" tall with an erect habit and very fast growing. This
sport of H. 'Sea Lightening' has a creamy white centered 7"x3" leaves
bordered by streaky, glossy green margins. The Centers get whiter
as summer progresses. A Mildred Seaver introduction, it's one of
the finest white centered Hostas available in the trade.
A smaller
Hosta with 5" x 4", veined, blue-green, non-variegated, cordate, textured leaves. Flower
Scape 16", bare & straight, supports white bell-shaped flowers. The white flower with blue or blue green leaves is always a stunning combination in
Hostas. AKA
H. 'Blue Swarm'. 
A cultivar of high merit having soft colors which are useful in the landScape. 7" x 5.5" wavy, heart-shaped leaf, yellow with a white margin. 22", foliated, straight flower
Scape with a profusion of lavender flowers. Veined leaves curve gracefully down Multiplies rapidly. 
A sieboldiana sport that offers large, seersucker leaves w/ a bluish gray center & variable edging of golden yellow. A handsome & stately
Hosta, long considered one of the 10 Best by the AHS. Multiple Award Winner. Best in dappled shade In direct sun, the leaves scorch. 
DELICIOUSLY FRAGRANT! Forms eye-catching mounds w/ glossy, green leaves displaying wide, white margins that emerge as a thin gold band.. Abundant large,
flowers which as the name suggests is VERY FRAGRANT. Looks good very late in the season, even when it's been a hot summer. 1996
Hosta OF THE YEAR w/ the AHGA. Good in 3/4 sun to full shade.
Heat tolerant.
Fountain-like,
viridescent (yellow turning green) center, an irregular margin light & dark green, oval lanceolate leaves. 36" foliated
Scapes. Generally unavailable.. PEST RESISTANT. Near white, striped purple horned shaped flowers look light blue.

Thompson
1991 An interesting mutation of Hosta 'Gold Standard' with a dark green
leaf quite like a H. fortunei but with a pattern of gold and white in the
middle of each leaf and a then, beside the gold band is a narrow white
band where it joins the greens. This band often is seen until the
plant has some age. Violet blooms in summer on 24" tall Scapes.
This popular cultivar has HUGE LEAVES (20" x 15"), w/
refreshing light green color that turns to yellow. Can grow up to 5 FEET ACROSS! Of heavy substance, it's virtually pest proof, including slugs. A strong grower, it does well in 1/2 sun. AHS Award Winner. Fertile.
Heat tolerant
A fertile 'Honeybell' mutation, with a large medium green, STREAKY WHITE, oval, flat leaf. The tall, foliated
Scapes stand 2 feet above the foliage & display medium, funnel-shaped, FRAGRANT, lavender flowers. This marvelous
Hosta was obtained from a
collector. A PRIZE! 
Lachman
1996 A hybrid of 'Carnival and 'Crepe Suzette'. The cupped and
puckered leaves are medium green with a creamy yellow to white
margins. Tall Scape with variegated leafy bracts. This small
variegated host is very unique with spoon-shaped leaves with a rounded tip
and have excellent substance. Superb characteristics for a small
Hosta.
Small, erect plant with really wavy, twisted medium green leaves. With a 12"
Scape, purple flowers appear to sit on top of the wavy foliage. Fertile. 
Heavily textured and puckered leaves are cup-shaped with a blue leaf edged with gold. Very similar to 'Francis Williams' but smaller and more sun tolerant. Slow to mature but really worth the wait! Takes up to 3/4 Sun. Slow to increase eyes but not size. 
Hanson
1999 Tetraploid sport of Hosta 'June' (which came from 'Halcyon') so
the blue is true dusty blue on the outside with a chartreuse-gold center
and double thick leaves. Light lavender blooms. Slow to medium
but worth waiting for.
Brought to this country in 1875 by Thomas Hogg. (Sold previously under his name.) This white margined
Hosta, w/ elongated, heart-shaped leaves, is 'stable' & rarely reverts to green. Multiplies rapidly. Sterile. May sprout green leaves. Our 'Best Buy'
Hosta. 
Excellent landscape
Hosta for mass plantings. Solid green leaf looks like satin when the sun shines on it, hence ONE of it many registered cultivar names is 'Green Satin'. It cannot cross pollinate w/ other
Hostas, so any seedlings that develop around it are pure H. ventricosa
babies! 
A green center with wide golden margins in the spring which later fades to to a yellowish white. Textured leaves. Introduced by ALAN BLOOM nursery. Multiple award winner. One of the best yellowish white-margined
Hostas for
specimen plantings. Supply very limited. 
Ground-cover
Hosta w/ narrow, upright leaves & white margins. Charming Hosta forms neat mounds of upright, lance-shaped leaves. Vigorous. 24"
Scape. Funnel shaped, purple striped, pale mauve flowers. Does not have the same tight ball root system you may be used to -- it's slightly stoloniferous 
J.
Kupla 1989 Leaf color changes throughout the season. Dark
green streaky margins. In spring the center is white; by midsummer
it's light green and finally dark green in late summer. Slug
resistant. The unique twisted, pointy leaves are held much more
upright than most Hostas. Best Variegated Leaf award '92, Best
Variegated Hosta Award 1992. A sport of H. 'Fortunei
Hyacinthina' which is a blooming machine.
This low, wide classic
Hosta produces magnificent specimen plants. Each puckered leaf boasts a bold blue-green center surrounded by a WIDE, irregular, creamy white margin which gradually changes to golden-yellow during the season & widen w/ age. Vigorous.
