Daylily Crown Rot has become an issue in the trade and no one seems to have the perfect solution debating about why this happens - over hybridization, tissue culture, poor growing conditions, etc. We will tell you that most any daylily planted in poorly drained soil and growing in high temperatures of the South can develop Crown Rot.  Our plants are grown outside in pots of Superb, Superb soil.  We've NEVER had a problem with any of our daylilies growing in a well-drained, properly prepared Zone 7 gardens.  Take time to prepare your soil and you will have much better success.  They are not fussy but, like many plants, do much better with good, well-drained soil.

Hemerocallis 'Ruby Waggoner'      Daylily    Zone: 3-9

Hemerocallis 'Ruby Waggoner'This beautiful plant almost surely came originally from local hybridizer Fred Benzinger (of 'Buttered Popcorn' fame).  He eventually quit registering Hemerocallis, even naming them but never stopped breeding or selling to the local public who just made their choice when blooming and he dug them.  He lived right down the road and many of our big clumps along our drive came from him with no name.  It has his typical huge bloom, deep ruby color with near black shading and deep gold throat!  Named now after my great Aunt Ruby.

Soil: Well-drained     H: 19"" W: 24"    B/M: Ruby/6-8
