Fallopia japonica var. 'Compacta'   Polygonum 'Reynoutria', Dwarf Japanese Knotweed    Z: 4-8

Fallopia japonica var. 'Compacta'This plant has had more names than one can count - Polygonum, Reynoutria to name two.  The species is a noxious weed.  The form 'Compacta', according to the Missouri Botanical Garden Kemper Center website, which says "Generally best as a ground cover in areas where its somewhat invasive spread will not be a problem.   Good for massing on banks and slopes." Also, great in pots where it can't spread at all!  It's cold hardy enough to live year round in pots in most parts of the country.  Loose clusters of pale pink flowers in summer mature to red and are followed by red seeds. Heart-shaped (to 2" long), red-veined, green leaves turn red in fall.  Good Fall color.

Soil: Most any.     H: 12-24"  W: 12-24"       B/M: Red/ June/July

Cannot ship to: AL, CA, CT, KY,  MA, NH, OR, VT, and WA!

Fallopia japonica 'Variegata'    Japanese Fleece Flower   Zone: 4-8

Fallopia japonica 'Variegata'Whether you call it Fallopia, because you're hip on up on the new names or Polygonum or Persicaria, some of the older names, it doesn't matter because it's a winner!  In a Genus with some real Garden Thugs, this is a well-behaved plant.  It does spread a little but has no interest in world domination, like some of it's close cousins - even the green-leaved species from which it evolves.  New shoots emerge salmon pink in the spring.  As the plant grows, the rounded leaves become green with wide irregular white variegation, but still tinted with pink.  In late summer, small creamy white flower spikes appear. This brightly colored plant can definitely brighten up a moderately shaded area.   Branches are beautiful in flower arrangements.

Soil:     H: 3'-4'  W: 24"        B/M: White/ Late summer

Cannot ship to: AL, CA, CT, KY,  MA, NH, OR, VT, and WA!
