Frequently Asked Questions

Use your Browser's Back Button to return to where you were after reading this page.

1.  How to I check the contents of my cart or check out?

At the top right corner of every plant page, there is a link to check your cart.

2.  How do I add an item to my cart?

Click on the shopping cart to the left of the name of the plant.

3. How do I change the quantity to greater than one?

To change to quantity to more than one, while on the Cart page, change "1" to the number you want and hit Recalculate.

Then to continue shopping you can go to the Main Plant Menu or hit your Back but TWO TIMES ignoring the old temporary page that had 1 in the cart.  (This is actually just an imaginary cached page! :-)  This is a unique method (and may seem cumbersome at first) but, because of the the huge number of plants we have, it's really more efficient.    The alternative, after you adjust a quantity, would be to send you to a main plant menu page which is a choice we give you. But if you're working systematically through our huge website and are halfway down the Salvia page, going to a main menu would be annoying.  By hitting the Back Button twice (and ignoring the temporary page in between the two mouse clicks, you will be exactly where you were.  This is MUCH FASTER.

Computer Tip:  This 'Back Button' technique, by the way, works on any website.  Takes you back to exactly where you were.

Do you have pictures of the Plants?  Why aren't they on the description pages?

By clicking on the plant name, you will be taken to a page with plant photos.  To return, hit you Back Button.  The reason we don't put Thumbnails (small plant photos) on the catalogue pages is that we have so many plants, that it would take folks with Dial Up Connection much, much to long for the page to load.  This way, you only look at photos that YOU want to see.

Computer Tip:  You can click your right mouse button and by choice, open the picture link in a separate window.

4. Do you have a paper catalogue?

We only have an online catalogue - no paper catalogue. Paper catalogues are out of date before they're printed and we have so many plants that a printed catalogue would be a book.   But we do have our entire website on CD for folks with slow Dial Up Connections.  Website Companion

5. Why are your shipping prices apparently high?

It's because, unlike most online companies, we include Handling with Shipping rather than incorporating the necessary expenses of packing, supplies, labels, boxes, order processing, etc. into the cost of the plants.  It seems more logical to us that way and we still have local customers who occasionally pick up plants here at the nursery and don't want a handling fee incorporated into the plant price.  (We notice, in the past few years, at least two other Nurseries have switched to this more logical system -- Plant Price and separate Shipping/Handling fee.

 6.  What is the little lock that shows up on the check out page?

Many of you have probably noticed the lock or key icon that appears occasionally in your web browser and wondered what this icon really means and what a merchant needs to do in order to have the same icon appear on their Web stores checkout pages. The lock or key icon (depending on which browser you are using) is an indicator to confirm that you are accessing a page protected by "Secure Socket Layer" (SSL) encryption. In layman's terms, it means that the data being displayed on the page, as well as any information inserted by a customer on the page, is encrypted when being transmitted from the customers browser to the server and vice versa. It is important to note that this alone does not guarantee that data on the server is impenetrable, however is does assure customers that a snooping "outsider" is unable to read the information as it is being transmitted through the World Wide Web.
