After
literally hundreds of requests for a 'catalogue' from folks with slow
dial-up connections, we're happy to introduce our
Website Companion CD. It's the perfect thing for people
with slow dial-up internet connections OR people who want to be able to
browse our website on their Laptop or computer without having to even be
connected to the Internet. It is NOT technically a catalog -- it is simply a
copy of our website. However, it looks like our online catalogue, it
works like our online catalogue -- the only difference is when you
want to order plants, it simply connects via your Internet connection to
our online catalogue to put items in you cart and place orders!
Technology is truly amazing!
Please Note: We do
not have a paper catalogue nor do we see one in our future. We just
have too many plants - over 2000! It wouldn't be a catalogue --
it
would be a book! However, our online catalogue pages are set up to
be in a printable format with narrow margins, so if you really want a
paper catalogue, you can just print the pages you want. But the
entire catalogue would have many, many, many pages which is why we don't
offer a printed catalogue. |
How
it works
It is our entire website on a
CD and if you are connected to the Internet
while you browse, you can click on the the shopping cart on the Companion CD on your
computer and the plant will be added to your cart online. (You must
be connected to the Internet to place items in your shopping cart.)
Adding items to your cart will occur at the same rate as any activity on
your Internet connection because that operation will actually go over your
dial-up connection, but the browsing, opening pictures, etc. will be MUCH
faster than online.
You won't notice any difference in browsing on the CD than you'll see
online. Well,
you'll see one difference -- speed -- glorious, wonderful speed!
Obviously, things that change periodically -- banners, notices, etc.
across the top of the website -- can't change on the CD. It's like a
book. Once printed (burned) it can't change. So, periodically,
you should check out the online website to be sure you're not missing
anything especially

But
it's also more than a companion to our website...
Even if you never wanted to order a plant from us, the 'Companion' is a
Database of over 2000 Perennials, Shrubs, Vines and Trees. It has plant
pictures, descriptions, heights, zones, bloom colors, etc. It can be an invaluable reference tool for the
gardener.
Does it work with every computer? Your
CD-ROM drive must have the capability of reading CD-R disks. Any
computer bought after 2000 shouldn't have any trouble. Occasionally
folks with really older computers have a problem. lf it doesn't work
for some reason, we'll be
happy to refund your money if the CD is returned undamaged or unscratched. |
If
you ever dragged slowly through our huge website with a slow dial-up connection, dreading
to open a picture page, even though you were dying to see the plant, you're
going to be absolutely giddy when you try this!

A note from Debby and Pete Sheuchenko
This CD is a joint project with our employee
Austin
Carter who handles our Tech Support and has worked for us since he was
15. He has taken care of the
massive technical issues to get this to work, fixed a gazillion things about
our website to fine tune it in preparation for transferring it to a
CD. He is Horticulture Major at Va. Tech (and gets no financial
help from his parents). In addition to his studies, he's part of the Virginia
Tech Fencing Team. The small profit from this CD (after the
expenses of creating it, burning it, printing labels, buying mailers, paying
shipping, etc.) goes to him to help with his tuition and college fees.
This is a great way for Austin to help our customers and a great way for you
to play a role in the education of a fine Horticulture student, who, by the
way, is the first person you reach if you have trouble with our website.
As Tech
Support
he's been invaluable to many customers who've had problems getting their
computer configured to work well with our shopping cart. We hope you enjoy his hard

The information is as accurate as we could possibly make it at the time of
'burning' -- printing -- just like a book. The day after it's
printed, someone discovers some new tidbit of information and the book is
slightly out of date. The same is true with this CD.
